There are tangerine trees in a corner of the Tahara Natural Farm tea field.
The slope of the tea field is too steep to use a harvesting machine, so we removed the tea trees and planted tangerine trees in their place.
Mr. T, who was helping us in the field, rented farmland and a hut in Ehime Prefecture to farm, and they introduced us to a tangerine farmer.
In 2016, my husband and I visited Mr. T’s hut and visited that mandarin farmer. They advised me to buy tangerine seedlings in Tokushima Prefecture, so on our way back we bought some early-season varieties.
We now have about 40 tangerine trees.
But the cold wave of 2018 killed most of the tangerine trees, and the ones that are growing now were actually bought at a nearby home improvement store.
We didn’t fertilize it, so I harvested about 100 this year.(;’∀’)
Tawara Natural Farm uses natural farming methods to grow tea in an environment as close to nature as possible, without using any pesticides or chemical fertilizers.

温州ミカンの木
田原ナチュラルファーム茶畑の片隅にミカンの木があります。
その茶畑は勾配がきつすぎて、収穫の機械を使うことが難しいので、茶の木を抜いてその代わりにミカンの木を植えたのです。
畑の手伝いをしてくれていたTさんが、愛媛県で農地と小屋を借りて農業をしていて、みかん農家を紹介してくれたのがきっかけです。
2016年に、Tさんの小屋を訪ね、そのみかん農家さんを訪ねました。みかんの苗は徳島県で買うようにアドバイスされたので帰る途中で早生品種をいくつか購入しました。
いまミカンの木は40本くらいです。
でも2018年の寒波でほとんどのみかんの木は枯れてしまい、いま生えているみかんの木は、実は近くのホームセンターで買ったものです(;’∀’)
肥料をやっていないので今年は100個ほどの収穫でした。
