A study was conducted to determine the incidence of stomach cancer as well as the amount of green tea consumed on a daily basis throughout Shizuoka Prefecture in Japan. As a result, the incidence of stomach cancer was found to be lower in areas where people drank more green tea. Since green tea contains a high percentage of catechins, it can be said that this is an effect of catechins.
In one study, crude catechins were administered (1) intraperitoneally, (2) subcutaneously, and (3) orally to tumors in rats, suggesting that catechins do not act directly, but may work on the immune system of the body to inhibit tumor growth.

日本の静岡県全域にわたって胃がんの発生率とともに日常どの位の量の緑茶を飲んでいるかの調査を行いました。その結果、緑茶を多く飲んでいる地域には、胃がんの発生率が少なくなっていることがわかりました。緑茶中にはカテキンの含有率が高いことから、カテキンの作用ということが言えるそうです。
ある研究では、ラットの腫瘍に粗カテキンを①腹腔内②皮下③経口により投与したところ、カテキンは直接作用するのでなく、生体の免疫機構に働いて腫瘍の増殖を抑制するという可能性を示唆しているそうです。
抗がん性については、現在も多くの研究者により研究が続けられています。
